Russian firms launch chartered ships to India :-ET July 10 2022

Russian companies have launched regular chartered ships to ensure the supply of necessary goods including critical raw materials to India and China in backdrop of sanctions imposed on Moscow after the Ukraine war impacting usual supply chains.

Chartered container shipping services have been launched between Russia and India for smooth transfer of critical raw materials, ET has learnt.

Russian freight shipper Inteco and China-based Swift Transport Group have created joint subsidiaries for container shipping services between Vostochny in Russia's Far East and ports in China, sources indicated.

China spent around $19 billion to purchase Russian oil, gas, and coal in the three months till the end of May, almost double the amount a year earlier. India spent $5.1 billion in the same period, more than five times of the value a year ago.

India and Russia have been in talks to revive the Vladivostok-Chennai shipping corridor as part of partnership in the Indo-Pacific region.

Meanwhile, the first consignment from Russia via Iran has reached the Indian port following operationalisation of International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC). A consignment via eastern branch of INSTC is on its way to India. On July 5, in a series of high-level talks, India urged Iran to facilitate regular use of the 7,200-kilometre long INSTC.

When speaking at the 6th Caspian Summit in June, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is expanding port infrastructure in the Caspian region. "First of all, we are talking about building the International North-South Transport Corridor... This is a truly ambitious project, a 7,200-kilometre-long transport artery from St Petersburg to ports in Iran and India," emphasised the Russian president.

"An agreement between the Caspian littoral states on transport  cooperation, which came into force last year and is aimed at turning the Caspian Sea region into a major international logistics hub, is designed to facilitate a faster launch of this corridor," said Putin. In 2021, cargo turnover between Russia and India rose by 46.5%.

Zelenskyy sacks Ukraine's envoys to India, Germany, other ambassadors :-ET July 10 2022

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Kyiv's ambassador to Germany on Saturday as well as several other top foreign envoys, the presidential website said.

In a decree that gave no reason for the move, he announced the sacking of Ukraine's ambassadors to Germany, India, Czech Republic, Norway and Hungary.

It was not immediately clear if the envoys would be handed new jobs.

Zelenskiy has urged his diplomats to drum up international support and military aid for Ukraine as it tries to fend off Russia's Feb. 24 invasion.

Kyiv's relations with Germany, which is heavily reliant on Russian energy supplies and also Europe's biggest economy, has been a particular sensitive matter.

The two capitals are currently at odds over a German-made turbine undergoing maintenance in Canada. Germany wants Ottawa to return the turbine to Russian natural gas giant Gazprom to pump gas to Europe.

Kyiv has urged Canada to keep the turbine, saying that shipping it to Russia would be a violation of sanctions imposed on  Moscow.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe pronounced dead after being shot by gunman :-ET Jul 08, 2022, 02:47 PM IST

Japan's former prime minister Shinzo Abe passed away after being being shot by a gunman at a campaign event. The suspect is a Nara resident.

The attacker was reportedly "dissatisfied" with Abe and wanted to kill him, local media reported.
The 41-year-old, a former member of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, opened fire at Abe with a homemade gun.
Abe was making a campaign speech outside a train station in the western city of Nara when two shots rang out.

The shooting is a stunning development in a country with famously low levels of violent crime and tough gun laws, involving perhaps Japan's best-known politician. Abe had been delivering a stump speech at an event ahead of Sunday's upper house elections when the apparent sound of gunshots was heard.

"He was giving a speech and a man came from behind," a young woman at the scene told NHK.

"The first shot sounded like a toy. He didn't fall and there was a large bang. The second shot was more visible, you could see the spark and smoke," she added. "After the second shot, people surrounded him and gave him cardiac massage."

Abe, Japan's longest-serving prime minister, held office in 2006 for one year and again from 2012 to 2020, when he was forced to step down due to the debilitating bowel condition ulcerative colitis.

Abe launched his "Abenomics" policies to lift the economy out of deflation, beefed up Japan's military and sought to counter China's growing clout in a historic two-term tenure.

He was instrumental in winning the 2020 Olympics for Tokyo, cherishing a wish to preside over the Games and even appeared as Nintendo video game character Mario during the Olympic handover.

Abe became Japan's longest-serving premier in November 2019, but by the summer of 2020, public support had been eroded by his handling of the COVID-19 outbreak as well as a series of scandals including the arrest of his former justice minister. He resigned without presiding over the Games, which were postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19.

He first took office in 2006 as Japan's youngest prime minister since World War Two. After a year plagued by political scandals, voter outrage at lost pension records, and an election drubbing for his ruling party, Abe quit citing ill health.

"What worries me most now is that because of my resigning, the conservative ideals that the Abe administration raised will fade," Abe subsequently wrote in the magazine Bungei Shunju.

"From now on, I want to sacrifice myself as one lawmaker to make true conservatism take root in Japan."

Five years after resigning, which he blamed on the intestinal ailment ulcerative colitis, Abe led his conservative Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) - ousted in 2009 - back to power.

He then launched a three-pronged "Abenomics" strategy to beat

persistent
deflation and revive economic growth with hyper-easy monetary policy and fiscal spending, along with  structural reform to cope with a fast-aging, shrinking population.

Deflation proved stubborn, however, and his growth strategy suffered in 2019 from a sales tax hike and Sino-U.S. trade war. The COVID-19 outbreak the following year triggered Japan's biggest-ever economic slump.

At the outbreak's onset, Abe was slow to close Japan's borders and implement a state of emergency urging people to stay home and shops to close. Critics initially branded the response clumsy and later faulted Abe for a lack of leadership.

Still, Japan's death rate remained far below that of many other developed nations.

DYNASTY
Abe hailed from a wealthy political family that included a foreign minister father and a great-uncle who served as premier. But when it came to many policies, his grandfather, the late prime minister Nobusuke Kishi, seems to have mattered most.

Kishi was a wartime cabinet minister imprisoned but never tried as a war criminal after World War Two. He served as prime minister from 1957 to 1960, resigning due to public furore over a renegotiated U.S.-Japan security pact.

Five years old at the time, Abe famously heard the sound of clashes between police and leftist crowds protesting the pact outside parliament as he played on his grandfather's lap.

Kishi tried unsuccessfully to revise Japan's U.S.-drafted 1947 constitution to become an equal security partner with the United States and adopt a more assertive diplomacy - issues central to Abe's own agenda.

Abe boosted defence spending and reached out to other Asian countries to counter China. He pushed the passage of laws to let Japan exercise the right of "collective self-defence", or militarily aiding an ally under attack.

Revising the pacifist constitution remained a top priority for Abe, a contentious goal since many Japanese see the charter as responsible for the country's post-war record of peace.

Abe's underlying agenda was to escape what he called the post-war regime, a legacy of U.S. occupation that conservatives argue deprived Japan of national pride. Reforming the education system to restore traditional mores was another of his goals.

He also adopted a less apologetic stance towards Japan's World War Two actions, saying future generations should not have to keep apologising for the mistakes of the past.

Though Abe also sought to improve ties with China and South Korea, where bitter wartime memories run deep, he riled both neighbours in 2013 by visiting Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine, seen by Beijing and Seoul as a symbol of Japan's past militarism.

In later years, he refrained from visiting in person and instead sent ritual offerings.

Across the Pacific, Abe forged close ties with U.S. President Donald Trump, playing golf and engaging in frequent phone calls and meetings.

He was reelected as LDP president for a third consecutive three-year-term in 2018 after a party rule change and, until the COVID-19 pandemic struck, some in the LDP had considered another rule change to allow him a fourth term.

Fresh Covid outbreaks put millions under lockdown in China :-ET July 06, 2022

Tens of millions of people were under lockdown in China on Wednesday as businesses in a major tourist city were forced to shut their doors and fresh clusters sparked fears of a return to blanket restrictions.

Health authorities reported over 300 infections Wednesday, with clusters found in the historic northern city of Xi'an -- home to the Terracotta Army -- as well as the country's biggest city Shanghai.

The fresh cases and the official response to them have deepened fears that China may be set to return to the kinds of strict restrictions seen earlier this year, when Beijing's hardline zero-Covid policy saw tens of millions locked down for weeks on end.
In Shanghai, some residents on social media Tuesday reported receiving government food rations -- a throwback to the month's long confinement in the spring.

Let me tell you a scary story, Putuo district is sending out vegetables again," read one resident's viral WeChat post.

"I'm so nervous, the epidemic has destroyed my youth. I'm about to go crazy," posted another Shanghai-based Weibo user.

Officials launched a new round of mass testing in over half of the city's districts after a rebound in cases since the weekend, closing all karaoke bars Wednesday after some infections were linked to six such venues.

And Xi'an -- a historic city of 13 million that endured a month-long lockdown at the end of last year -- was placed back under "temporary control measures" after 29 infections were found, mostly among waste recycling workers, since Saturday.

Public entertainment venues including pubs, internet cafes and karaoke bars would shut their doors from midnight on Wednesday, the city government said in a notice.

Payment giant NPCI moots SWIFT alternative for 32 million Indian expats :-ET July 06,2022

Synopsis

Indians overseas remitted $87 billion last year, the biggest inflow for any country tracked by the World Bank. The remittances market, where it costs $13 on average to send $200 across borders, is ripe for disruption, according to Ritesh Shukla, chief executive officer of NPCI International Payments Ltd.

The company that built India’s digital payments backbone plans to make it cheaper and easier for the nation’s 32 million expatriates to bring their money home.

“We have displaced cash in India to a large extent and are now looking to repeat the success in cross-border corridors,” said Shukla. “Overseas Indians can use our rails to remit money inwards straightway into their bank accounts, and for the markets where Indians travel frequently, we will build acceptance for our instruments.”

Successful overseas forays by NPCI would give India a home-grown alternative to SWIFT, the Belgium-based cross-border payment system operator, though Shukla stressed that the objective was not to displace existing platforms. About 330 banks and 25 apps -- including Alphabet Inc.’s Google Pay and Meta Platform Inc.’s WhatsApp -- share NPCI’s unified payment interface, which has helped make instantaneous digital transactions a $3 trillion market in India.

NPCI is in the process of connecting the UPI platform to systems in other countries to replicate its domestic success. It is negotiating collaborations with governments, fintech companies and service providers around the world, aiming to reduce transaction costs and enable more small-ticket transactions, Shukla said.

“This is going to take the payments world by storm,” said Mayank Goyal, CEO of moneyHop, a cross-border banking app that lets users make international remittances through the SWIFT network. The company will seek to integrate UPI rails into the app as it makes cross-border payments easier, Goyal said.

UPI’s linkage with overseas nations will further anchor trade, travel and remittance flows between the countries and lower the cost of cross-border remittances, the Reserve Bank of India said in a report.

The Reserve Bank of India set up NPCI along with the country’s lenders to make retail payments faster, more accessible, and cost-efficient. A user just needs a virtual payment address to instantly transact with vendors and exchange cash between friends or family members.

RBI liberalises norms to boost forex inflows, shore up falling Rupee :-ET July 6 2022

The Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday announced measures to diversify and expand the sources of forex funding with an aim to mitigate volatility and dampen global spillovers, including letting foreign investors invest in short-term corporate debt and allowing the purchase of more government securities under the fully accessible route.

The measures taken by the central bank come against the backdrop of the Rupee depreciating by 4.1% against the US dollar during the current financial year so far (up to July 5) amid the ongoing geopolitical tensions.

“The global outlook is clouded by recession risks. Consequently, high risk aversion has gripped financial markets, producing surges of volatility, sell-offs of risk assets and large spillovers, including flights to safety and safe haven demand for the US dollar. As a result As a result, emerging market economies are facing retrenchment of portfolio flows and

persistent downward pressures on their currencies," the RBI said while announcing the new measures to boost forex inflows.

Foreign currency non-resident deposits [FCNR(B) and NRE deposits] will be exempt from the maintenance of cash reserve ratio (CRR) and statutory liquidity ratio (SLR).

The relaxation will be available for deposits mobilised up to November 04, 2022. However, transfers from Non-Resident (Ordinary) (NRO) accounts to NRE accounts shall not qualify for the relaxation, the RBI said.

Banks will be permitted to raise fresh FCNR (B) and NRE deposits without being subject to current interest rate caps.

The limit for external commercial borrowings under the automatic route has been raised to $1.5 billion from $750 million or its equivalent per financial year.

The all-in cost ceiling under the ECB framework is being raised by 100 bps, subject to the borrower being of investment-grade rating.

Banks will be able to utilise overseas foreign currency borrowings for lending in foreign currency to entities for a wider set of end-use purposes, subject to the negative list set out for external commercial borrowings, RBI said.

The measures also include easing norms for FPI investment in the debt market.

At least 6 killed, 24 injured in shooting at July 4 parade in US :-Source rediff.com

At least six people were killed and 24 others injured when multiple shots were fired along the July 4th parade route in north suburban Highland Park on Monday morning local time in Illinois.

The Independence Day parade in Highland Park, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago, erupted in panic when shots were fired about 10 minutes after the parade kicked off, according to media reports.

As per US media, an active shooter has been spotted in Highland Park. The suspect is described as a white male in the age 18-20 years, according to the Lake County sheriff's office.

A video on Twitter was shot by one of the bystanders. At least 25 shots were fired at an Illinois Fourth of July parade; a reporter saw five people bloodied.

"As parade-goers fled the parade route in Highland Park, they left behind chairs, baby strollers and blankets," tweeted Shannon Watts, Founder of "Moms Demand Action".

The shooter was reported to still be active just after 11 am (local time), US media reported.

Sources said the person could be shooting from atop a high building. The parade route was near Central Avenue and Second Street.

The parade was stopped about 10 minutes after it kicked off at 10 am when shots were fired, striking an unknown number of parade-goers and sending hundreds of people running for safety.

A Chicago Sun-Times reporter saw blankets covering three bloodied bodies and five other people wounded and bloodied near the parade's reviewing stand. Several witnesses said they heard multiple shots fired. One witness said he counted more than 20 shots.

Some of the injured were taken to Highland Park hospital for treatment.

The police were telling people, "Everybody disperse, please. It is not safe to be here."

As they fled the parade route, parade-goers left behind chairs, baby strollers and blankets as they sought cover, not knowing just what happened.

The police were patrolling the area with rifles. The parade had a heavy presence of police and fire vehicles.

The city of Highland Park provided very little information on the incident in a Facebook post just before 10:45 am, only saying that the city's Fourth Fest had been cancelled.

Illinois State Police were on the scene as well. They called the incident an "active shoot situation" just before 11:25 am.

Earlier, Illinois witnessed a series of shooting incidents in which at least 37 people were injured and 7 killed in gun shootings, local media reported.

This is a new string of horrific shootings that took place in the United States where the latest is the killing of a 30-year-old man who was shot dead on Saturday morning (local time) in Chicago, Illinois.

The shooting incident took place in the 9000 block of Escanaba at about 12:19 am when the victim was shot in the head by an unknown person, the police said. The victim was taken to an area hospital however he was pronounced dead. No one was in custody as of Saturday afternoon.

With increasing incidents of gun violence in the United States, President Joe Biden had said that the US needs to ban assault weapons for the sake of protecting children and families or raise the age to purchase them from 18 to 21.

Furthermore, on June 22, a group of US lawmakers reached a much-awaited deal on a bipartisan gun safety bill after recent mass shooting incidents in Uvalde, Buffalo and Texas, that struck a nerve in the country.

The new bill aims to take firearms away from dangerous people and provide billions of dollars in new mental health funding.

The bill does not ban assault-style rifles or significantly expand background-check requirements for gun purchases, but it gives states more resources to take guns away from dangerous individuals.

Service charge levied by restaurants unfair trade practice, CCPA issues guidelines Read more at: https://economictimes.

Synopsis

If a restaurant charges service charge, the consumer can file an E-dakhil complaint with the Consumer Commission. Consumers can even file a complaint with the district collector, and following an investigation, the DC can refer the issue to the CCPA for further action.

The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued guidelines terming the service charge levied by restaurants as unfair trade practice.

According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the rates for food and beverages served in hotels or restaurants already include the charge for food and service.

As per the guidelines, "No hotels or restaurants shall add service charge automatically or by default in the bill."

Restaurants and hotels generally levy a service charge of 10 per cent on the food bill.

The guidelines said there should not be any collection of service charge by any other name.

No hotel or restaurant can force a consumer to pay service charge. They have to clearly inform the consumer that service charge is voluntary, optional and at consumer's discretion.

"No restriction on entry or provision of services based on collection of service charge shall be imposed on consumers," the guideline added.

Further, service charge cannot be collected by adding it adding it along with the food bill and levying GST on the total amount.

If any consumer finds that a hotel or restaurant is levying service charge in violation of the guidelines, s/he can request the concerned establishment to remove it from the bill amount.

The consumers can also lodge a complaint on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH), which works as an alternate dispute redressal mechanism at the pre-litigation level, by calling 1915 or through the NCH mobile app.

They can also file complaints with the Consumer Commission. The complaint can be filed electronically through the e-Daakhil portal for its speedy and effective redressal.

Indian govt allows relatives living abroad to send up to Rs 10 lakh without disclosing it The Ministry of Home Affairs has amended Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. The new rules allow Indians to receive up to Rs 10 lakh in a year from relatives staying abroad without informing the authorities. India Today July 2 2022

The Union Home Ministry has amended certain rules related to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) allowing Indians to receive up to Rs 10 lakh in a year from relatives staying abroad without informing the authorities.

The earlier limit was Rs 1 lakh. In a notification, the home ministry also said if the amount exceeds, the individuals will now have 90 days to inform the government instead of 30 days earlier.

The new rules, Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Rules, 2022, were notified by the home ministry through a gazette notification on Friday night.

"In the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Rules, 2011, in rule 6, — for the words “one lakh rupees”, the words “ten lakh rupees” shall be substituted; and for the words “thirty days”, the words “three months” shall be substituted,” the notification said.

Rule 6 deals with intimation of receiving foreign funds from relatives.

It stated earlier that “any person receiving a foreign contribution in excess of Rs 1 lakh or equivalent thereto in a financial year from any of his relatives shall inform the central government (details of funds) within 30 days from the receipt of such contribution”.

Similarly, making changes in rule 9, which deals with the application to obtain 'registration' or 'prior permission' under the FCRA to receive funds, the amended rules have given individuals and organisations or NGOs 45 days to inform the home ministry about bank account (s) that are to be used for the utilisation of such funds. This time limit was 30 days earlier.

The central government has also 'omitted' provision 'b' in rule 13, which dealt with declaring foreign funds including details of donors, amount received, and date of receipt, etc. every quarter on its website.

Now, anyone receiving foreign funds under the FCRA will have to follow the existing provision of placing the audited statement of accounts on receipts and utilisation of the foreign contribution, including income and expenditure statement, receipt and payment account and balance sheet for every financial year beginning on the first day of April, within nine months of the closure of the financial year, on its official website or on the website as specified by the Centre.

A provision where an NGO or an individual receiving foreign funds had to declare such contributions every quarter on its official website has also been done away with.

In case of change of bank account, name, address, aims or key members of the organisation (s) receiving foreign funds, the home ministry has now allowed 45 days time to inform it, instead of the previous 15 days.

The home ministry had made the FCRA rules tougher in November 2020, making it clear that NGOs which may not be directly linked to a political party but engage in political action like bandhs, strikes or road blockades will be considered of a political nature if they participate in active politics or party politics.

The organisations covered under this category include farmers' organisations, students, workers' organisations and caste-based organisations.

In the amended FCRA, the government barred public servants from receiving foreign funding and made Aadhaar mandatory for every office-bearer of NGOs.

The new law also says that organisations receiving foreign funds will not be able to use more than 20 per cent of such funds for administrative purposes. This limit was 50 per cent before 2020. According to the law, all NGOs receiving funds have to be registered under the FCRA.

Govt imposes windfall tax on oil producers, raises import duty on gold :-Business Standard

The Centre on Friday slapped a windfall tax on domestic crude  producers, imposed export duties on petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and hiked the  on  in efforts to reduce pressure on the rupee, rein in the current account deficit (CAD), and increase the domestic supply of petroleum products.

Domestic producers sell crude  to domestic refineries at international parity prices, thus making windfall gains.

The government also imposed special additional excise duties of Rs 6 and Rs 13 per litre on the export of petrol and diesel, respectively, following a shortage of the fuel for almost a month. A majority of private outlets had stopped fuel supplies, forcing the government to resort to expanding the universal service obligations (USO) to the private sector as well. The USO required them to maintain supplies at specified working hours and at “reasonable prices”.

While private  companies continue to earn windfall profits, the Centre’s decision in May to cut the excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre to reduce inflationary pressures is expected to cost the exchequer Rs 85,000 crore in FY23.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters that in extraordinary times like these, the government had opted for a two-pronged approach to boost domestic fuel supplies and earn additional revenues. “We want India to become a refining hub. We are happy that (fuel) exports are happening. We are happy that companies are making profits, but (these are) phenomenal profits. We need at least some of it for our own citizens. At a time when we don’t have enough domestic supplies, I also have to keep India’s consumers in mind,” she said on Friday.

The government’s decision to have an additional cess of Rs 23,250 per tonne by way of an special additional excise duty on crude is going to have a major impact on companies like state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Oil India, Vedanta’s Cairn Oil and Gas, and Reliance Industries (RIL). The decision may fetch the government around Rs 67,400 crore per annum, as the country produces around 29 million tonnes of crude oil a year.

Small producers, whose annual production of crude in the preceding financial year was less than 2 million barrels, will be exempt from this cess. “This defies any rationale. Windfall tax has to be ad valorem and linked to the profit. So this is not windfall tax; it is a levy,” said R S Sharma, former chairman and managing director of ONGC.

graph

Shares of ONGC and Oil India declined 13.3 per cent and 14.8 per cent, respectively, on Friday. The two state-run majors jointly produce 72 per cent of the total domestic crude oil of about 30 million tonnes. The average crude oil price realisation for both the companies was expected to rise to $90-100 a barrel in 2022-23, as compared to $70 a barrel in 2021-22.

The decision was taken after crude oil prices increased by over 40 per cent in 2022 owing to the sanctions imposed by various countries on Russia, following the Ukraine war.

The Centre’s decision also came two days after giving a boost to the industry by providing marketing freedom to domestic crude oil producers, a move that would have helped in increasing domestic production.

The government said the current cess would have no adverse impact on domestic petroleum products or fuel prices as the cess would not be applicable to the import of crude oil. However, giving a small relief to the producers, no cess will be imposed on additional production over the preceding year.

At the same time, export policy conditions have also been imposed by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), that the exporters would be required to declare at the time of exports that 50 per cent of the quantity mentioned in the shipping bill has been supplied in the domestic market during the current financial year.

“However, export to Bhutan and Nepal is exempted from this condition. Similarly, this condition is not applicable to 100 per cent EoUs and units in SEZs. Such exporters are also required to file a quarterly return to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas,” the DGFT said in a statement. India exported only around 13 MT of petrol and 32 MT of diesel in 2021-22.

The government added that a special additional excise duty of Rs 6 per litre was imposed on exports of ATF also due to the similar reasons. In 2021-22, India exported only around 5 MT of ATF.

To curb rising  imports, the government hiked customs duty on the yellow metal to 15 per cent from 10.75 per cent. In May, India imported 107 tonnes of gold, the highest in a year, putting additional pressure on the CAD.

Madhavi Arora, lead economist, Emkay, said the indirect import and export curbs by duty tweaks were aimed at reducing the impending pressure on the CAD and thus the currency. “This policy action by the government comes after the RBI’s consistent intertervention in all currency trading spaces to signal its support. Dislocation in forward rates, falling forex cover, persistently high commodity prices have implied the RBI intervention strategy cannot be the sole support for the rupee and fiscal support in the form of trade curbs might be needed,” she added.

SENIOR CITIZENS This is written by an American politician but it applies to all Seniors in all the counties of the World.

Senior citizens are constantly being criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world, real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have done and do not try to blame others.

HOWEVER, upon reflection, we would like to point out that it was NOT senior citizens who took:

The Golden Rule from rulers,

The nativity scene out of cities,

The civility out of behavior,

The refinement out of language,

The dedication out of employment,

The prudence out of spending,

The ambition out of achievement or

God out of government and school.

And we certainly are NOT the ones who
eliminated patience and tolerance from
personal relationships and interactions with
others!
And, we DO understand the meaning of
patriotism, and remember those who have
fought and died for our country.

Just look at the Seniors with tears in their eyes and pride in their hearts, as they stand at attention with their hand over their hearts, as the American Flag passes by in a parade!

YES, I'M A SENIOR CITIZEN!

I'm the life of the party.....Even if it lasts until 8 p.m.
I'm very good at opening childproof caps.....
With a hammer.

I'm awake many hours before
my body allows me to get up.

I’m smiling all the time,
because I can't hear a thing you're saying.

I'm sure everything I can't find is
in a safe secure place, somewhere.

I'm wrinkled, saggy, lumpy,
and that's just my left leg.
I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.

Yes, I'm a SENIOR CITIZEN and I think I am having the time of my life! Now if I could only remember who sent this to me, I wouldn't send it back to them.
Or, maybe I should send it to all my friends anyway.
They won't remember, even if they did send it.
Spread the laughter Share the cheer Let's be happy
While we're here.
