Jacqueline Fernandez tried to flee India, says ED in bail plea response livemint Oct 22 2022

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday opposed Jacqueline Fernandez's bail plea in connection with the 200-crore money laundering case saying the actor is “deep-pocketed" and could interfere with the ongoing investigation. It also alleged she made an abortive bid to flee the country but was unsuccessful due to the issuance of the look-out circular (LOC).

Noting that Fernandez never co-operated with the agency, ED said, she made the disclosure when confronted with evidence.  “Jacqueline is no ordinary person but a Bollywood actress with huge financial resources and hence high stature and influence," the ED said in its response.

However, countering the allegations, Advocate Prashant Patil appeared for Jacquline and stated that she has always cooperated with the investigation agencies and attended all the summons to date. "She has handed over all the information to the best of her ability to the ED."
Meanwhile, Delhi Court on Saturday extended the interim bail of Fernandez. During the hearing on regular bail, Additional Sessions Judge Shailender Malik noted that the reply on Jacqueline's bail plea has been filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the matter. However, the court deferred the matter for 10 November and extended the interim bail of Jacqueline. The Court also directed ED to provide the chargesheet and other relevant documents to all parties.

Actor Jacqueline Fernandez also attended the court proceedings physically on Saturday. On September 26, Jacqueline was granted interim bail in the matter.

The Additional Sessions Judge on the last date had issued notice to ED on Jacqueline's regular bail petition and granted interim bail to her on 50,000 bail bond.

According to ED's earlier Chargesheet, Bollywood actors Jacqueline Fernandez and Nora Fatehi examined and stated that they got top models of BMW cars, the most expensive gifts from the accused Sukesh Chandrasekhar.

ED chargesheet clearly stated that "During the investigation, statements of Jacqueline Fernandez were recorded on 30.08.2021 and 20.10.2021 Jacqueline Fernandez stated she received gifts viz three designer bags from Gucci, Chanel, and two Gucci outfits for gym wear. A pair of Louis Vuitton shoes, two pairs of diamond earrings and a bracelet of multi-coloured stones, two Hermes bracelets. She also received a Mini Cooper which she returned."

ISRO launches 36 broadband satellites in its heaviest rocket from Sriharikota :-ET

In a big success, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today launched 36 satellites in its heaviest rocket, LVM3.
ISRO's heaviest rocket blasted off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday at 12:07 am to place 36 broadband communication satellites into the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) for a UK-based OneWeb.

OneWeb is a private satellite communications company, in which India's Bharti Enterprises is a major investor and shareholder.

ISRO's heaviest vehicle, LMV3, is also dubbed as one of the heaviest for its ability to carry satellites up to 8,000 kg.

The mission assumes significance as this was LVM3's maiden commercial mission and also NewSpace India's (NSIL) first with the said launch vehicle. NSIL is a central public sector enterprise under the Department of Space.

ISRO Chairman S Somanath had conducted a special pooja on Saturday morning at Sri Chengalamma Parameshwari Devi Temple at Sullurpeta in the Tirupati district for the success of GSLV Mark-3 rocket launch.

The 43.5 metre tall rocket was launched at 12.07 am after at the end of the 24-hour countdown with a payload of 5,796 kg. The LVM3-M2 rocket is a three-stage launch vehicle consisting of two solid propellant S200 strap-ons on its sides and core stage comprising L110 liquid stage and C25 cryogenic stage.

Just after 19 minutes after the launch, the LVM3 placed the 36 small broadband communication satellites in low earth orbit (LEO).

The launch is also the first for LVM3-M2 to place the satellites in the Low Earth Orbit (up to 1,200 kms above the earth) unlike Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

ISRO scientists have rechristened the launch vehicle its present name from GSLV-MKK III as the newest rocket is capable of launching 4,000 kilogram class of satellites into GTO and 8,000 kgs of payloads into LEO.

GSLV-Mk III had four successful missions in the past.Another set of 36 satellites from OneWeb is planned to be put into orbit in January 2023. The satellite company plans to have a constellation of about 650 satellites in low earth orbit (LEO) to offer communication services.

The rocket mission has several firsts for the Indian space sector. It is the first commercial launch of GSLV MkIII and for the first time an Indian rocket will be ferrying a payload of about six tonnes.

Similarly, the OneWeb is using an Indian rocket to put its satellites into orbit for the first time. Also, it is the first commercial launch of GSLV MkIII contracted by NewSpace India Ltd (NSIL), the commercial arm of ISRO, and for the first time a renamed GSLV MkIII is being used for launching satellites in LEO.

on Saturday reported a 266 per cent jump in its net profit at Rs 556 crore for the quarter ended September 2022 on the back of strong growth in core operating income.

The private sector lender had posted a net profit of Rs 152 crore in the same quarter a year ago.

Its core operating income (excluding trading gains) rose by 35 per cent from a year ago to Rs 3,947 crore in Q2 of 2022-23 fiscal year, it said in a regulatory filing.

Net interest income climbed 32 per cent at Rs 3,002 crore, while fee and other income spurted by 44 per cent to Rs 945 crore in the September quarter of FY23.

Total income in the three months to September rose to Rs 6,531.03 crore as against Rs 4880.29 crore in the same period of 2021-22.

Asset quality was better with gross non-performing assets (NPA) coming down to 3.18 per cent of the gross advances as of end-September 2022 from 4.27 per cent a year ago.

Net NPAs were also down at 1.09 per cent as against 2.19 per cent.

The bank said its provisioning for the quarter came down by 11 per cent from a year ago to Rs 424 crore.

"The bank continues to improve on asset quality on overall basis. The NPA levels in the retail and commercial segment have improved and are around the long-term guidance provided earlier of GNPA 2 per cent and NNPA of less than 1 per cent," it said.

About one infrastructure loan account, Mumbai Toll Road, which become NPA in the first quarter of this fiscal, it said the company continued to pay its dues partially and the principal outstanding reduced by Rs 21 crore during the quarter to Rs 760 crore as on September 30, 2022.

"While the account is NPA as of now, we expect to collect our dues and expect eventual losses on this account to be not material in due course."

V Vaidyanathan, Managing Director and CEO, IDFC First Bank, said, "Our profit after tax has grown consistently for the fifth consecutive quarter, reflecting the resilience of our franchise."

He said the bank is confident of sustaining this trend as its new lines of businesses such as cash management, wealth management, FASTag, credit cards have immense potential going forward.

"On the asset quality front, we have a long track record of 12 years of maintaining our retail gross NPA and net NPA at around 2 per cent and 1 per cent respectively through the economic slowdown in 2010-2014...

"Going forward, we are optimistic about maintaining our growth momentum on the basis of strong foundations we have built at the Bank," Vaidyanathan said.

Rishi Sunak back in focus after UK Prime Minister Liz Truss resigns :-ET Oct 20,2022

Former Indian-origin chancellor Rishi Sunak is back in focus now and may make one of the most remarkable political comebacks in British politics, after Prime Minister Liz Truss resigned just after 45 days in office and becoming the country's shortest-ruling prime minister.

Speculators expect Sunak, who had contested the election for the prime minister's role against Truss, to take over the top job at 10 Downing Street. In fact, last week itself the Oddschecker bookies' odds aggregator showed Sunak was racing ahead as the favourite to replace Truss.

However, there is deep infighting within Tory ranks, and loyalists of former PM Boris Johnson think he should be brought back.

Penny Mordaunt, who was a contender in Britain's previous leadership contest this year, is also believed to be in the running, Sky News reported.

Liz Truss resigned today, bringing to an end intense speculations about her future amid economic chaos brought about by her policies. Truss was eventually undone by her economic programme that sent shockwaves through the markets and divided her Conservative Party just six weeks after she was appointed.

A YouGov poll of Tory members found recently that Sunak would beat Truss if the Conservative Party leadership election is held now. Fifty five percent would now vote for Sunak if they were able to vote again, while just 25 per cent would vote for Truss.

"With the ongoing political chaos at Westminster dominating headlines, a new YouGov Political Research snap poll of Conservative party members finds significant buyer's remorse among the party membership surrounding their September decision to elect Liz Truss leader," the YouGov analysis said.

Truss' brief and chaotic time at the top saw her announce a massive package of unfunded tax cuts, most of which had to be later unwinded following a market rout.

Sunak on the other hand had warned against much of the financial meltdown that would follow unfunded tax-cutting policies. There will be a leadership election next week. Until then, Truss will stay on as prime minister.

Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has also called for a general election. "We don’t need another Conservative Prime Minister lurching from crisis to crisis. We need a General Election now and the Conservatives out of power," he said.

Sebi clears govt proposal to turn Vodafone Idea dues into equity: Business Standard :-Report The govt's stake in Vodafone after the conversion could be more than 30%, says a govt official Topics Securities and Exchange Board of India | SEBI | Vodafone Idea Reuters | New Delhi Last Updated at October 20, 2022 15:33 IST

Market regulator  approved the government's proposal to convert dues of over $1.92 billion by telecom operator  to equity, two senior government officials said on Thursday.

Last year, India had approved a rescue package for debt-strapped telecom  that allowed them to convert interest on deferred adjusted gross revenue owed to the government into equity.

Among the country's three major telecom players, including Bharti Airtel and Reliance Industries' Jio, the government package was seen as a bailout for Vodafone Idea, which was on the verge of bankruptcy.

" (Securities and Exchange Board of India) has approved the government's proposal to come in as a financial investor. This has been communicated to the telecom ministry," one of the officials, who did not want to be named, told Reuters.

The government's stake in Vodafone after the conversion could be more than 30%, the official added, which would make it one of the largest shareholders in the company along with UK's Vodafone Group and Aditya Birla Group.

has also approved the government's request to classify its shareholding in  as public float, both the officials said.

The market regulator's guidelines state that only stakes up to 10% can be classified as public shareholding.

The finance and telecom ministries, SEBI and  did not immediately reply to request for comments.

The government will sell its stake in the telecom operator once it is turned around, one of the officials said.
