India stands in solidarity, Jaishankar expresses condolences over Seoul tragedy

Crush kills at least 151 at Halloween festivities in Seoul :-ET

A mass of mostly young people celebrating Halloween festivities in Seoul became trapped and crushed as the crowd surged into a narrow alley, killing at least 151 people and injuring 150 others in South Korea's worst disaster in years.

Emergency workers and pedestrians desperately performed CPR on people lying in the streets after the crush in the capital's leisure district of Itaewon Saturday night.

Choi Seong-beom, chief of Seoul's Yongsan fire department, said the death toll could rise further and that an unspecified number among the injured were in critical condition.

An estimated 100,000 people had gathered in Itaewon for the country's biggest outdoor Halloween festivities since the pandemic began.

The South Korean government eased COVID-19 restrictions in recent months.

Itaewon, near where the former headquarters of U.S. military forces in South Korea operated before moving out of the capital in 2018, is an expat-friendly district known for its trendy bars, clubs and restaurants.

It was not immediately clear what led the crowd to surge into the narrow downhill alley near the Hamilton Hotel, a major party spot in Seoul. One survivor said many people fell and toppled one another “like dominos” after they were being pushed by others.

The survivor, surnamed Kim, said they were trapped for about an hour and a half before being rescued, as some people shouted “Help me!” and others were short of breath, according to the Seoul-based Hankyoreh newspaper.

Another survivor, named Lee Chang-kyu, said he saw about five to six men push others before one or two began falling, according to the newspaper.

In an interview with news channel YTN, Hwang Min-hyeok, a visitor to Itaewon, said it was shocking to see rows of bodies near the hotel.

He said emergency workers were initially overwhelmed, leaving pedestrians struggling to administer CPR to the injured lying on the streets. People wailed beside the bodies of their friends, he said.

Another survivor in his 20s said he avoided being trampled by managing to get into a bar whose door was open at the alley, Yonhap news agency reported.

A woman in her 20s surnamed Park told Yonhap that she and others were standing along the side of the alley while others caught in the middle of the alley had no escape.

Choi, the fire department chief, said that bodies were being sent to hospitals or a gym, where bereaved family members could identify them. He said most of the and injured are in their 20s.

“Horrific news from Seoul tonight," British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak tweeted. "All our thoughts are with those currently responding and all South Koreans at this very distressing time.”

Jake Sullivan, the U.S. national security adviser, tweeted that reports of the disaster were “heartbreaking” and said Washington “stands ready to provide the Republic of Korea with any support it needs.”

The last South Korean disaster this deadly also hit young people the hardest.

In April 2014, 304 people, mostly high school students, died in a ferry sinking.

The sinking exposed lax safety rules and regulatory failures; it was partially blamed on excessive and poorly fastened cargo and a crew poorly trained for emergency situations. Saturday's deaths will likely draw public scrutiny of what government officials have done to improve public safety standards since the ferry disaster.

It was also Asia's second major crushing disaster in a month. On Oct. 1, police in Indonesia fired tear gas at a soccer match, causing a crush that killed 132 people as spectators attempted to flee.

More than 1,700 response personnel from across the country were deployed to the streets to help the wounded, including about 520 firefighters, 1,100 police officers and 70 government workers.

The National Fire Agency separately said in a statement that officials were still trying to determine the exact number of emergency patients.

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol issued a statement calling for officials to ensure swift treatment for those injured and review the safety of the festivity sites.

This was the deadliest crushing disaster in South Korean history. In 2005, 11 people were killed and around 60 others were injured at a pop concert in the southern city of Sangju.

Elon Musk takes control of Twitter, fires top executives including CEO Parag Agrawal . Mint Oct 28,2022

Twitter Inc. Chief Executive Officer Parag Agrawal is among executives planning to depart as Elon Musk completes his $44 billion deal to take over the social network, according to people familiar with the matter.
Also leaving are Vijaya Gadde, the head of legal, policy and trust; Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, who joined Twitter in 2017; and Sean Edgett, who has been general counsel at Twitter since 2012, according to people familiar with the matter, who declined to be named because the information isn’t public.

Twitter didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Agrawal stepped into the CEO role in November, when co-founder Jack Dorsey unexpectedly resigned. Agrawal had been at Twitter for almost a decade, most recently as chief technology officer, but his run as CEO was quickly disrupted by Musk’s arrival as a major shareholder and increasingly vocal antagonist of its current leadership.

After Musk showed up, it became clear that Agrawal was unlikely to keep his job. “I don’t have confidence in management," Musk said in one early filing about the deal, and the two executives exchanged some public swipes. In May, Elon Musk replied to a Twitter thread from Agrawal defending the company’s user metrics by tweeting back a poop emoji.

Text messages unveiled during the lawsuit show that the two men had a contentious exchange early on during the deal process after Musk asked his followers whether Twitter was “dying."

Agrawal confronted him via text. “You are free to tweet ‘is twitter dying?’ or anything else about Twitter," he wrote on April 9, “but it’s my responsibility to tell you that it’s not helping me make Twitter better in the current context." Musk fired back, “What did you get done this week?" And then: “I’m not joining the board this is a waste of time."

The following week, in messages with a friend, Musk mocked Agrawal for being on vacation in Hawaii during deal negotiations. “Shouldn’t he be in a war room right now?!?" investor Jason Calacanis messaged Musk. “Does doing occasional zoom calls while drinking fruity cocktails at the Four Seasons count?" Musk replied.

Efforts by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to reconcile Musk, a longtime Dorsey friend, and Agrawal after the deal was announced also ended poorly. “At least it became clear that you can’t work together," Dorsey messaged Musk after a group call. “That was clarifying."

Agrawal won’t be leaving empty handed. As part of the deal, the CEO will vest 100% of his unvested equity awards, according to a filing. Research firm Equilar estimated that means he’ll make an estimated $42 million, Reuters reported.

As Twitter’s head of legal and policy issues, Gadde has overseen the creation and enforcement of rules for hundreds of millions of internet users, including prominent ones that are subject to looser content limitations under the company’s exemptions for newsworthy posts or world leaders’ communications. In acquiring Twitter, Musk has promised to turn it into a less-restrictive platform for free speech, a move he has said is “essential to a functioning democracy."

Gadde was hit with a spate of online abuse earlier this year after Musk publicly criticized content-related decisions at Twitter. The company permanently banned former US president Donald Trump in January 2021 following his supporters’ attack on the Capitol. Musk’s statements leading up to his purchase of the social-media company have led many to expect the billionaire will restore Trump’s account and reinstate other users who have been blocked for breaking rules on offensive or dangerous content.

"TIMES MAGAZINE CALLED MOSSADEGH "MAN OF THE YEAR" IN 1951.A MUST READ BY ALL.

But due to all these things the British lost a lot. The British started many small and big attempts to remove Mossadegh, tried to bribe Mossadegh, tried to assassinate Mossadegh, attempted a military coup, but because Mossadegh was very experienced and intelligent, the British assassination, bribery plot failed and Mossadegh was very popular among the Iranian people. Being popular, a military coup was not possible.

Finally the British asked for help from America. America's CIA approved a $1 million fund to remove Mossadegh. 1 million dollars equals 4250 crore Rials (Iranian currency)

The funds were sent to the American ambassador in Tehran (the capital of Iran). Mossadegh wanted to completely end the monarchy in Iran and give all the power to the parliament, so the emperor of Iran was also on the side of England and America. Their plan was to create discontent against Mossadegh and remove popular support from him, then overthrow his government with the help of corrupt parliamentarians. A large number of Iranian journalists, editors, Muslim clerics were paid 631 crore Riyals by the US and those journalists, editors and Muslim clerics had only one thing to do in return, which was to incite the people against Mossadegh. Members of the Iranian Parliament were paid 46 million Rials each to spread propaganda about Mossadegh's work. Thousands of Iranians were paid to participate in the false protest. They started marching on the Parliament. Big media around the world also started supporting America. Mossadegh began to be referred to as "the Dictator" in the "New York Times". "Times" magazine called Mossadegh's choice dangerous. Opposition to Mossadegh began at a very low level, with cartoons depicting him as gay. Realizing that his government was about to be overthrown by corrupt MPs, Mossadegh dissolved the parliament, and finally the US forced the Iranian emperor to remove Mossadegh from his post as prime minister. (Since Mossadegh had the authority to accept or reject the order, he decided to arrest him if he refused the order) But Mossadegh's soldiers arrested the army unit that had come to arrest him, and upon learning this, the Emperor of Iran fled to Baghdad. Finally, by paying a bribe of 210 million Rials, the US instigated fake riots in the capital of Iran, with mercenaries on both sides. Rioters attack Mossadegh's house, Mossadegh is forced to flee, military overthrows power, a puppet becomes prime minister citing the old order of the emperor. After the emperor returned to Iran, Mossadegh surrendered, was put on trial, imprisoned, and then held under house arrest until his death. (Mossadegh died in custody at the age of 85.) After that America and England shared 40% - 40% of Iranian oil and the remaining 20% was given to other European companies. For decades the Iranian people had to live under the dictatorship of the Shah, a revolution ended the monarchy but then the fanatical Khomeini came to power and made the Iranian people even worse. What was Mossadegh's crime..? "Sectors of our country should be dominated by indigenous companies instead of foreign companies!" This policy is his crime..? Under Mossadegh's leadership, Iran would have become a fully democratic country before 1955, and 100% of the oil production would have benefited Iran. The decades of torture inflicted on the Iranian people would not have happened. With a strong democracy and a government that favors indigenous companies, Iran would probably be a more prosperous country than Saudi Arabia today. But Iran's corrupt parliamentarians, journalists, editors, protestors sold Iran's rich future for just one million dollars. During this period of oppression, the Iranian people began to realize that America had a hand in overthrowing Mossadegh's government. In 1979, the Iranians detained Americans in the US embassy for 444 days, and 77 volumes of documents the Iranians found in the embassy were released. In which there was evidence of how America helped the oppressive puppets in Iran. That's why Iranians call America, *"Satan's Country"*. Mossadegh could not complete the policy of breaking the dominance of foreign companies and promoting indigenous companies, he had accepted enmity with the two superpowers of the world. In the end he had an unfortunate end, as in Bollywood films the hero doesn't win every time. Finally who is the real villain for Iran..? Journalists, editors, MPs, activists who have been sold to America? If these people had not been sold, the people would have stood behind Mossadegh, America would not have succeeded like England. But for four paise, the patriotic leader was called "Kumshah" and soon the whole country was ruined. Our country 'India' is also on the same path today. It is a great misfortune that the common citizens do not notice the ongoing conspiracies, unless they suffer endless atrocities. It is wise to be alert in time and not fall prey to this very corrupt media propaganda, trust our patriotic present Indian leadership and stand firmly behind it. Otherwise a disaster like Iran is inevitable....and this is why intelligence agencies of big capitalist countries are working day and night. These intelligence agencies are making many politicians of India work as their agents and they are also working with the aim of selling the country for dirty money. *It is no longer a secret that all our opposition parties have been leading this since 2014.* It is said that our destiny is in our own hands, we just need to understand it properly. Which single person caused the greatest damage to India or Indian society? How? Replied thru Quora by Yash Hegde

This guy.

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill. Many of you may know that, this guy was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 (later again from 1951 to 1955).

Now I don't like writing long answers, so I'll try to keep it short, the way I like.

  1. World war 2 was at it's peak.
  2. United kingdom was having a tough time with the resources.
  3. India was a British colony back then (Unfortunately).
  4. Churchill ordered to divert the essential resources/supplies, from civilians in Bengal to the United Kingdom.
  5. The civilians in Bengal had nothing to eat, causing “The Great Bengal Famine”
  6. Result? 4 Million people died of starvation.

Apparently, when Churchill was informed about this famine. All he had to say was, “Why hasn't Gandhi died yet”.

Give me one good reason, why this guy should be looked upon as a hero while on the other hand Hitler is a synonym for Satan. Hypocrisy?

[IRONY TIME : He even managed to do the peace sign, in the first pic. LOL.]

Jacqueline Fernandez tried to flee India, says ED in bail plea response livemint Oct 22 2022

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday opposed Jacqueline Fernandez's bail plea in connection with the 200-crore money laundering case saying the actor is “deep-pocketed" and could interfere with the ongoing investigation. It also alleged she made an abortive bid to flee the country but was unsuccessful due to the issuance of the look-out circular (LOC).

Noting that Fernandez never co-operated with the agency, ED said, she made the disclosure when confronted with evidence.  “Jacqueline is no ordinary person but a Bollywood actress with huge financial resources and hence high stature and influence," the ED said in its response.

However, countering the allegations, Advocate Prashant Patil appeared for Jacquline and stated that she has always cooperated with the investigation agencies and attended all the summons to date. "She has handed over all the information to the best of her ability to the ED."
Meanwhile, Delhi Court on Saturday extended the interim bail of Fernandez. During the hearing on regular bail, Additional Sessions Judge Shailender Malik noted that the reply on Jacqueline's bail plea has been filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the matter. However, the court deferred the matter for 10 November and extended the interim bail of Jacqueline. The Court also directed ED to provide the chargesheet and other relevant documents to all parties.

Actor Jacqueline Fernandez also attended the court proceedings physically on Saturday. On September 26, Jacqueline was granted interim bail in the matter.

The Additional Sessions Judge on the last date had issued notice to ED on Jacqueline's regular bail petition and granted interim bail to her on 50,000 bail bond.

According to ED's earlier Chargesheet, Bollywood actors Jacqueline Fernandez and Nora Fatehi examined and stated that they got top models of BMW cars, the most expensive gifts from the accused Sukesh Chandrasekhar.

ED chargesheet clearly stated that "During the investigation, statements of Jacqueline Fernandez were recorded on 30.08.2021 and 20.10.2021 Jacqueline Fernandez stated she received gifts viz three designer bags from Gucci, Chanel, and two Gucci outfits for gym wear. A pair of Louis Vuitton shoes, two pairs of diamond earrings and a bracelet of multi-coloured stones, two Hermes bracelets. She also received a Mini Cooper which she returned."
