Film and television actress Vidya Sinha, who was known for her roles in films like Pati Patni Aur Woh and Chhoti Si Baat, died on Thursday at the age of 71. The actress was admitted to Criticare Hospital in Mumbai, after she had complained of breathlessness.
Vidya was rushed to hospital last week and sources told Hindustan Times that she had been diagnosed with lung and heart disorders. Her condition was then said to be stable and she was kept under observation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She was then put on PAP (Positive Airway Pressure) ventilator.
A source told the daily, "Her prolonged medical issues had aggravated, leading to breathlessness and she even developed heart and lung disorders, leading to more breathlessness." The source had added that it had all "been taken care of" and that she would be staying in the hospital till she made a full recovery.
Vidya Sinha started her career at the age of 18 as a model and actor. She was best known for films like Rajnigandha and Chhoti Si Baat. After taking a hiatus from films, the actress made a comeback to cinema with Salman Khan's Bodyguard. She was also a popular face on television and had worked with Ekta Kapoor in Kaavyanjali (2006).
In 1968, she got married to Venkateshwaran Iyer and adopted a daughter named Jhanvi. After the death of her husband in 1996, she married Netaji Bhimrao Salunkhe in 2001. She divorced him in 2009 after a difficult relationship. She had also filed a complaint of domestic violence in January 2009. A court order directed Salunkhe to pay Rs 10,000 per month as maintenance pay.
