Hours after two persons were arrested for harassing a South Korean YouTuber in Mumbai, the woman opened up about the ordeal. Hyojeong Park said that she did not want one bad incident to ruin her whole trip and her passion to show India to the world.
“I don't want this one bad incident to ruin my whole travel and my passion to show wonderful India to other countries,” Park was quoted as saying by ANI. The influencer went on to say that a similar thing had happened to her in another country too but at that time I couldn't do anything to call Police. In India, action is being taken very quickly. I've been in Mumbai for over 3 weeks, planning to stay longer,” Park told ANI.
A video of the 24-year-old being harassed while she was live-streaming for her fans went viral on social media on Thursday. The YouTuber was seen travelling in Mumbai’s Khar area when she was accosted by two men on a motorbike.
While she was interacting with her fans, one of the men interrupted and started asking about her age. The man later grabbed her by the arms and attempted to pull her towards his motorbike. All this while, the youth kept her calm and politely attempted to evade the men.
However, to her shock, the men kept following her. One of them even attempted to put his arms around her and tried forcibly kissing her. While Park said no with hand gestures and kept walking forward, the men were seen following her and prodding her to get on the bike.
The two men who harassed Park were later arrested by the Mumbai Police and set in 1-day police custody. The incident triggered numerous debates surrounding women’s safety in public spaces.
