Architect Honoholi K. Chishi-Zhimomi from Nagaland has created history by designing the Sumi Baptist Church, the largest Church of Asia. The 38-year-old mother of three has now become an inspiration for many across the nation and the world for her exemplary work.

Zhimomi obtained a degree in architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi and did her Masters from the University of Adelaide, Australia. She specializes in monument constructions, Gothic and contemporary designs.

The majestic egg-shaped Church she has designed rests on the top of a hill at a height of 1865 m above sea level in Zunheboto town of Nagaland. The white turrets and blue dome of the church are visible from 20 villages of the district Zunheboto. With 27 rooms and a seating capacity of 8,500, the Sumi Baptist Church is now the biggest church of Asia.

The work of designing the Church began in 2004, and construction started in 2007. More than 2,000 workers participated in its construction which involved a total cost of Rs.36 crore and took a whooping 10 years to complete. The church was inaugurated on April 22, 2017.
Talking about her exceptional brainchild, Honoholi K. Chishi-Zhimomi says,
This Zunheboto Church was designed 13 years ago and construction has been going on for 10 to 11 years. So it has been a very long project but a good one. Now, when I look back especially the design and how everyone is very happy, it makes me very happy to hear all the good inputs and feedbacks. It is truly an inspiration from God. It is his house and I am very privileged to have had the opportunity to design such a wonderful building for God, and I must say that the inspiration truly comes from God.

Here are some more pictures of the splendid construction.
