Rupee hits fresh six-month high against US dollar

Indian rupee on Friday strengthened for the fifth session to hit a fresh six-month high against the US dollar tracking gains in local equity and Asian currencies market.

At 9.15am, the rupee was trading at 69.22 a dollar, up 0.12% from its previous close of 69.35. The home currency opened at 69.35 a dollar and touched a high of 69.21 -- a level last seen on 10 August 2018.
The 10-year bond yield was trading at 7.364% from its Thursday's close of 7.377%. Bond yields and prices move in opposite directions.
So far this year, the rupee has gained 0.8%, while foreign investors have bought $4.45 billion in equity and sold $1.05 million in debt market.
India's benchmark index Sensex rose 0.01% to 37,760.23 points. Year to date, it rose 4.68%.
Asian currencies were trading marginally higher. Thai Baht was up 0.1%, Japanese yen 0.08%, Singapore dollar 0.07%, Taiwan dollar 0.06%, China renminbi 0.06%. However, South Korean won was down 0.25%, Indonesian rupiah 0.12%, Philippines peso 0.1%.he dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 96.635, down 0.15% from its previous close of 96.636.
