New Delhi: NEC Corporation is aiming to more than double its revenue from India to $1 billion in five years led by offshore support centres, smart city project and 5G.
“Right now, we are at $400 million and look forward to increasing that to $1 billion in five years… India is one of the focus areas and a key strategic market,” Takashi Niino, president and CEO, NEC Corporation, told ET in an exclusive interaction.
Asked if he was content with the company’s performance over the last few years, he said, “We are on the right path but need to speed up. We are expanding manpower to enable the growth journey.”
Niino said the company plans to hire 14,000 employees over the five years to support growth in India and the US, Europe and Asia. The company currently has 6000 employees in India.
NEC is looking to utilise India as the hub for its offshore support and product development for global markets, Niino said, adding that the manpower expansion will also include R&D expansion.
“Manpower expansion will help with offshore software development capabilities, airport solutions, one ID based on biometrics and artificial intelligence not only for the Indian market but to support Western and Asian countries,” he said.
“Both Indian and Japanese governments discussed how to target business outside India. We are participating in the Aadhaar project. That's sort of a business model…is necessary to promote this type of solutions in developing countries.”
