Today, 53 years ago, on June 5, 1967, the Six Day War broke out between Israel and the Arab countries surrounding it: Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and other countries that sent military forces under the command of the warring states.
The direct reasons for the war were Egypt's blockade on Israel by blocking the Straits of Tiran in the Red Sea and Syrian attempts to steal part of Israel's water supply through river bias.
But the real reason for the war was the same reason for a confrontation between Jews and Arabs: Islam's unwillingness to accept an independent Jewish entity in an area considered Islamic, in terms of Muslims.
In the early hours of the war, Israel destroyed the air forces of Syria and Egypt and within six days Israel won a crushing victory over Arab states. During the war, Israel conquered the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, the Golan Heights from Syria and Judea and Samaria from Jordan.
The highlight of the war was the liberation of the Old City of Jerusalem, which houses the Temple Mount, the site of which stood both the Temple and the Western Wall, the last remnant of the wall that surrounded the Temple.
The picture in the post is the most famous image of the war, three IDF soldiers, from the forces that liberated the Old City of Jerusalem, standing in front of the Western Wall
