Trudeau says Canada is ready to respond as Ontario’s premier says Trump ‘declared war’ on tariffs The new US president has pledged an import duty of 25% on Canada and Mexico, 60% on Chinese goods and 10% on global imports.:-The Indian Express

After bracing for weeks for a trade war with the new US administration led by President Donald Trump, Canada has escaped a 25% tariff as Trump announced to implement it on February 1, while Canada’s outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said that his government is ready to respond to all scenarios.

Trump, who had earlier pledged to impose a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico on his first day in office, postponed the penalty to February 1 in a breather to both the countries. When asked about the uncertain timeline regarding tariffs, Canada’s Trudeau said that Trump is a skilled negotiator who likes to keep his negotiating partners a bit off-balance.
