The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has put in place an online mechanism through which you can self-generate a Universal Account Number (UAN) using your Aadhaar card.

Since this is a one-time password (OTP) enabled process, only those who have registered their mobile number with Aadhaar will be able to self-generate their UAN.

Using this facility, you will get an OTP on your registered mobile number and after verification, the system will fetch basic details such as name, date of birth etc. and the same will be shown on the screen. After you verify and submit the form, the UAN is generated. This can then be given to the new employer.

Here's how you can self-generate UAN using Aadhaar

Step 1: Visit the unified portal (member) of EPFO, by clicking here

The user can then click the Register button after entering the captcha and selecting the box in the disclaimer section.

About Universal Account Number (UAN)
UAN will help the member to view details of all member IDs linked to it. If a member is already allotted a UAN, then he/she is required to provide the same on joining the new establishment to enable the employer to in-turn mark the new allotted member ID number to the already allotted UAN.

UAN has been made mandatory for all employees and will help in managing the EPF account and even PF transfer and withdrawals will become much easier than before. Remember, in most cases, the employer provides the UAN and the employee just has to get it activated by providing relevant KYC documents to the employer. It is a one-time permanent number which will remain the same throughout one's career.

When you join a new organisation, the first thing you should do is ask your employer for the 'New Form No. 11- Declaration Form' to furnish the existing UAN. If you don't have one, then just give your previous PF number along with the date of exit from your previous job.
