What will happen if Putin becomes PM of India for 6 months? Beautiful reply by Puneet Bansal

Puneet Bansal

If Vladimir Putin becomes PM of India for 6 months, it will going to be the historic day which will usher India into a new era altogether……..wait……why only for six months…..let's propose him for “PM for life”.
India is already on the verge of reinventing itself after centuries of slumber and Putin heading us will be one great push and catalyst which will convert us from being the dancing elephant to the menacing tusker.
CV of the aspirant for a novel Job tells alot about what are the skills of that person and what he has achieved in his previous capacity. Lets evaluate same for “Putin of Russia” and then we will hypothesize that for “Putin of India”

Putin and 15 years of Russia Miracle.
on 31st Dec, 1999, when intoxicated and unhealthy Yelstin handed over the premiership of Russia to Putin ,everyone has written off Russia by then and it was considered no more than a mess. Same was true for Putin, not only he was unproven as a politician and as an administrator but he was considered a mere pawn who was an ex-KGB and will do what he will be dictated by Oligarchs. Reign was given to Putin but bunch of Oligarchs were ruling the crumbling and was empire, in disarray.
Within couple of years, everything changed. Perception were decimated and both Russia and Putin rose from the ashes like a Phoenix. He proved to be an elusive unicorn in the dirty arena of murky Russian politics.
Not only he is revered by the people , with local popularity soaring to around 80% of approval rating but as a barometer of success, is equally hated and feared by his nemesis. These two extreme emotions characterize a strong , feared yet well accepted leader.
He proved that leader should be capable of taking tough decisions even if they are not liked by his people in short term but prove to be a long term gain for them.
Vladimir Putin served three terms as President of Russia: 2000 to 2004, 2004 to 2008, 2012 to present. He was prime minister for three months in 1999, and served a full term from 2008 to 2012. Coming to , what Putin has done since 1st Jan, 2000.
Economy: During Putin's government, poverty was cut more than half and real GDP has grown rapidly.
Terrorism: Starting from the end of the 20th century, significant terrorist activity has taken place in Moscow, most notably apartment bombings and the Moscow theater hostage crisis. Many more acts of terrorism have been committed in Chechnya, Dagestan, and other parts of the country. However, Putin has managed to control it with some degree of success, not entirely but FSB is in control of situation espcially after the Russian success in Second Chechen War.
Separatism: Post , Soviet Union disintegration, the Chechen separatists declared independence in 1991. By late 1994 the First Chechen War broke out under YELSTIN and after two years of fighting the Russian forces withdrew from the region after crushing defeat. In 1999, the fighting restarted and concluded the next year with the Russian security forces establishing control over Chechnya under Putin.
Social uplift: Population growth can be taken as an apt indicator for the social uplift:
Russian population was falling at an alarming rate. Russia had 150 million people at time of the fall of the Soviet Union – was losing almost a million a year.
Decline gradually bottomed out, and in 2010 the population started growing again. The secret to this reversal was largely economic: as their financial situation improved , Russians began having more children. According to the state statistics service, the country now has more than 146 million people, up from 142 million in 2008.
Global superpower:Putin inherited an army that was not fit for purpose. During his second term, he set out to reform the outdated conscript-based army. Russia now spends a higher percentage of its GDP on defence than the United States, and has allocated a record $81bn in 2015.
While the increased spending and reorganisation has created a force able to react relatively quickly when former Soviet republics get too uppity, new equipment – in particular a new stealth fighter and a next-generation tank – are still on the way.
World influence: Putin’s foreign policy is that he stands up to western hegemony and, with China, acts as a balance to the military and political power of the US. If Yeltsin was consistently in America’s pocket, then Putin has been on its back.
However, while the Russian president can claim to have history on his side in opposing Washington over the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, his stance on Syria and unwavering support for Bashar al-Assad has been open to greater criticism.
Putin has worked constructively with international allies and adversaries to help bring Iran in from the cold, and – to work at further nuclear arms reductions.
In 2014, sanctions were imposed against Russia, in response to the military intervention in Ukraine, Russia's relationship with the West came to be characterized as assuming an adversarial nature, or the advent of Cold War II.
Russia has changed beyond all recognition from the chaotic, open free-for-all it was under Yeltsin. Internationally it faces isolation, sanctions, a new cold war even. At home, despite economic decline Putin enjoys perhaps the highest popularity rating of any Kremlin leader – an approval rating that topped 86% in February.
Love him or hate him, it’s hard to deny that Putin has made a huge impact on his country and the world.
