In a big push to overhaul governance, the Centre has invited applications for 10 joint secretary level positions in various ministries. In the initiation of this process of 'Lateral Recruitment', private sector professionals above 40 years of age with 15 years of experience in any of the different fields like agriculture, civil aviation etc. This is bypassing the prevalent UPSC system after Niti Aayog's recommendation. The centre has also invited the officers working in the government currently working at an equivalent level or are eligible for appointment to equivalent level can also apply for the positions. Individuals working at a comparable level in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), Autonomous Bodies, Statutory Organisations, Universities and Recognized Research Institutes with a minimum of 15 years experience are also eligible to apply.
