The last war that Hezbollah fought with Israel was in 2006. Hezbollah claimed victory in that war because it did not get destroyed. There is only one reason why Israel did not destroy Hezbollah. Israel cared too much about public opinion. The funny thing the West that normally critisizes Israel for anything was pretty much ok with Israel going all out and deploying ground troops. Everyone knew that Hezbollah started the fight and that Israel was justified.
But Israel was was too cautious. They conducted surgical strikes against Hezbollah positions and warned the civilians in the area about the strikes giving Hezbollah fighters time to withdraw.
What they should have done was send ground troops from the south and deploy paratroopers at Litani river pushing Hezbollah fighters from two sides. The could have had a decisive victory but as I said they were too cautious. I don’t think Israel would make that mistake again and Hezbollah knows it. They got lucky in 2006. They won’t get lucky again.
