NEW DELHI: Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio on Tuesday collectively paid ₹6,045 crore to the department of telecommunications (DoT) as half-yearly installments for deferred spectrum charges, three persons aware of the matter said requesting anonymity.
Of the total amount paid so far, Vodafone Idea has given ₹3,042 crore, Reliance Jio ₹1,053 crore, and Bharti Airtel ₹1,950 crore as spectrum dues for airwaves purchased in 2014.
These are routine payments, made twice a year in September and March, and not related to adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues.
Emails sent to Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, DoT, and Vodafone Idea were unanswered till press time.
The Union Cabinet in November had approved the recommendation of the Committee of Secretaries (CoS) on relief to the stressed telecom sector, allowing operators a two-year moratorium on spectrum-related dues.
As a result, after today's payment, companies have the option to pay the next installment in 2022-23.
However, the deferred amounts will have to be equally spread over the remaining installments.
