Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2pm on Wednesday after two visitors broke in from the gallery into the chamber with smoke canisters.
Two other alleged accomplices were also held by the Delhi Police outside the Parliament. They were identified as Neelam (42) of Haryana's Hisar and Amol Shinde (25) of Maharasthra's Latur area.
After opening the gas canisters that emitted the smoke outside the Parliament building, the two protestors raised slogans such as "Tanashahi Nahi Chalegi" (dictatorship will not be allowed), "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Jai Bheem, Jai Bharat", reported PTI, citing officials.
A group of MPs and security personnel overpowered the intruders who were taken away and arrested.
Many MPs later alleged major security breach in the incident and pointed out it happened on the anniversary of the terrorist attack on Parliament.
Following the incident, the visitor passes have been suspended till further notice. The Lok Sabha Speaker also canceled the passes of former MPs and PA to MPs. The Speaker also called for an all-party meeting at 4pm on Wednesday.
According to ET sources, Hanuman Beniwal (RLP), Maluknath (BSP) and Gurjeet Aujla were the three MPs who assisted the staff in nabbing the two arrested.
Around 100 MPs including defence minister Rajnath Singh and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi were present in the House when the incident took place. The two intruders tried to walk over the MPs' desks and were trying to run towards the presiding officer's table when they were caught. They were trying to raise some slogans as well.
While many MPs asked how these two managed to being the smoky substance through the security checks upto the gallery, in inquiry is being done into the incident.
The man and the woman, who were protesting outside Parliament premises using colour smoke canisters, werebrought to Parliament Street Police Station.
"Antecedents being verified. Initial questioning related to security breach and who gave access. Finding out if any connection with those who jumped inside. Multi-agency questioning also likely," reported ANI, citing Delhi Police sources.
An anti-terror unit special cell of the Delhi Police also arrived inside the Parliament to question the people who caused the security breach at the Lok Sabha.
Congress MP Karti Chidambaram said, "Suddenly two young men around 20 years old jumped into the House from the visitor's gallery and had canisters in their hand. These canisters were emitting yellow smoke. One of them was attempting to run towards the Speaker's chair. They were shouting some slogans. The smoke could have been poisonous. This is a serious breach of security especially on 13th December, the day when Parliament was attacked in 2001."
In a post on X, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said, "Saw two young men unleash foul smelling yellow coloured gas from canisters inside Parliament gallery. MPs rushed to grab these men. One person was raising some slogans. This raises serious questions on another aspect of the new Parliament - security."
On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha paid tributes to those who laid down their lives while fighting terrorists who attacked Parliament on December 13, 2001. As a mark of respect for the deceased, the members also stood in silence for a brief while.
On December 13, 2001, terrorists of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) attacked Parliament complex and opened fire.
Their attempt to storm Parliament House was foiled by personnel from the Parliament Security Service, CRPF and Delhi Police.
Nine people, including eight security personnel, had died in the attack.
