Surat Diamond Bourse: 4500 offices, 70 lakh sq ft area, 130 elevators, 22 km passage...inside the world's largest office building :-The Economic Times

 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated Surat Diamond Bourse, the world’s largest and modern centre for international diamond and jewellery business. It will be a global centre for trading of both rough and polished diamonds as well as jewellery. The bourse will comprise a Customs Clearance House for Import – Export; jewellery mall for retail jewellery business and facility of International banking and safe vaults. The Surat Diamond Bourse building is the world's largest office complex with more than 67 lakh square feet of floor area, even bigger US defence headquarters Pentagon. Surat Diamond Bourse is located at Khajod village near Surat city.

PM Modi has said that the Surat Diamond Bourse it is a testament to India’s entrepreneurial spirit and will serve as a hub for trade, innovation and collaboration, further boosting our economy and creating employment opportunities. The prime minister today also inaugurated the new integrated terminal building of Surat airport in Gujarat.


Surat Diamond Bourse - Key things to know


From cutting, polishing, and trading activities,. the Surat Diamond Bourse will bring brings together a vast community under one roof. It will have 4,500 offices and 130-plus elevators, with a total passage exceeding 22 km.

Diamond city Surat processes about 90% of the world's rough diamonds before they are sold to buyers in places like the US and China. The new bourse aims to centralize the industry under one roof.
The cost of the project has been pegged at over Rs 3,200 crore.

Surat Diamond Bourse is spread across 35.54 acres and is meant to promote imports, exports and trading of diamonds, gems and jewellery from India.The diamond bourse has nine 15-story towers and more than 4,500 offices.

It is located inside the Diamond Research and Mercantile City, which is an upcoming 810 hectare business district in Surat and modelled after the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, or Gift City.
