Kolkata: Vodafone Idea has set in motion a slew of measures, including the setting up of virtual network war rooms, stocking up on fuel at tower sites and inking intra-circle roaming (ICR) pacts with telco partners to ensure uninterrupted telecom and broadband connectivity in West Bengal and Odisha that will bear the brunt of super cyclone Amphan likely to hit these regions Wednesday afternoon.
“Despite the current lockdown situation, we are ensuring sufficient fuel supply to our sites across key locations, and stocking at strategic locations for use in times of emergency,” a Vodafone Idea spokeswoman told ET.
The telco, she said, has also initiated ICR arrangements with other operators and is working closely with partners and government agencies to ensure stable telecom connectivity during the cyclone Amphan to let people stay connected. In addition, it has kept ready mobile diesel gensets (DGs), critical equipment spares and vehicles at key locations likely to be be impacted by the cyclone.
”Vodafone Idea teams are prepared to manage any emergency situation and network monitoring will continue through our 24x7 virtual war rooms,” the company added.
Super Cyclone Amphan is reportedly slated to generate galeforce wind speeds upto 175 kmph when it makes landfall near the Sunderbans in West Bengal late Wednesday afternoon. At press time, comments from Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio were awaited.
