The long-pending land acquisition issue in the state is expected to be resolved soon with some 1.2 hectares of additional land in Palghar being acquired in the last 10 days alone, officials told ET.
On July 4, the Eknath Shinde-led government proved its majority in the Maharashtra assembly. Work on the Maharashtra side of the project had slowed at the time of the previous Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress government.
Officials said consensus has also been achieved on another long-pending issue of shifting a Bharat Petroleum Corp petrol pump located on a plot in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).
This plot of land has been earmarked for the construction of a terminus of the high-speed train. It will have a three-story underground structure with six platforms on the lowest level.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is expected to issue directives on this, officials said.
It is estimated that land for 508 route km would be needed for the high-speed rail project that was launched in September 2017. The total cost of the project was estimated at ₹1.1 lakh crore when it was announced.
With the recent developments, 90.56% of the required land has been acquired for the entire project. This includes 98.8% in Gujarat, 100% in Dadar Nagar Haveli and 72.25% in Maharashtra.
In all, 384 km of land is required in Gujarat, 155 km in Maharashtra and 5 km in Dadar Nagar Haveli.
"For the bullet train project alignment passing through the forest area, stage-I clearance has been granted by the Maharashtra government and the stage-II approval is also expected by September," a government official said.
Work on all the eight stations in Gujarat is under various stages of construction. Contracts for all civil and track packages have already been awarded in the Gujarat portion of the project. It is expected that a trial run between
Vapi
and Sabarmati may be conducted in 2026 and the Gujarat portion is likely to be fully operational the following year. Originally, the project was expected to be completed by December 2023.
