Gaganyaan mission LIVE updates: This test planned today was to ensure astronaut safety in the event of unforeseen issues during their space journey, said ISRO.
Gaganyaan mission LIVE updates: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) aborted the first test flight for its ambitious Gaganyaan mission which was scheduled today at 8:45 am from its Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota. The maiden Flight Test Vehicle Abort Mission-1 (TV-D1) was to demonstrate the Crew Escape System (CES) performance.
What is Gaganyaan mission?
• The Gaganyaan mission's primary goal is to launch humans into space, placing them in a Low Earth Orbit at an altitude of 400 kilometres for a three-day mission, with a safe return to Earth scheduled for 2025.
• The crew for the Gaganyaan mission will be transported to the designated orbit using an LVM3 rocket. This rocket consists of various stages, including solid, liquid, and cryogenic propulsion systems.
What ISRO aims to gain from the abort demo test?
• The abort demonstration test serves the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of the crew escape system of the Gaganyaan mission. This system is designed to ensure the safe return of astronauts in the event of an emergency during the actual crew mission launch, which is slated for 2025.
• The success of this test flight is crucial as it establishes the crew escape system's capability to bring astronauts safely back to Earth. It forms a critical milestone in the qualification testing process and uncrewed mission phases, ultimately paving the way for the first Gaganyaan program mission.
